Cloud Computing without Internet

Cloud Computing without Internet

Cloud Computing is a part of Internet, we all have in mind that Cloud is Internet and Internet is Cloud. But! Let’s have few questions : What about a end to end SLA or performance with best-effort Internet in between? What about compliance for your company, based on your branch or country requirements? What about economic intelligence? I won’t talk again about NSA practices. What about Internet and its neutrality? Could you build a business on this? Fortunately, they are solutions, private access to public cloud. Beamap with its partner InterCloud hosting a breakfast on November 4th on this topic ( in Paris). Cloud Application Eligibility : Where to start?

Cloud Application Eligibility : Where to start?

How to start your application eligibility assessment? In a previous article I made the point that Hybrid Information Systems is a more adequate term than Hybrid Cloud if you consider the Cloud from the Application perspective rather than from the Infrastructure perspective. The Hybrid nature of Cloud boils down to: Where is the application running? So, let’s come back to the Application Eligibility Assessment methodology! Which kind of applications can I put into the Private Cloud? Which kind of applications could benefit from Public Cloud? What are these “Hybrid applications” that could be partly in the Private Cloud and in the Public Cloud? Let’s put aside the Hybrid apps for the time being;  It’s very difficult, today, with legacy applications, to find that kind, ready to go. So good news, not so much work to do. This could be, in a close future, some re-written applications. Let’s deal with the two first kinds. To do so, I am using Beamap’s actionable framework for application eligibility. This is not the truth, if you think we missed something, feel free to add a comment! The framework is based on 15 points : Location of Data: Where is it stored? Is it moving? Which guarantees does the provider offer? Lots of compliance concers in the area. Data check first could help you don’t sped time for your App so please check Data point first ! Personal data protection: compliance with the European Data Protection directive and what is done in this area. Data retention policy: the provider needs to share this and what’s needed on the application side. Auditability, again compliance with...
Ready… Map… Go !

Ready… Map… Go !

The card is an object that is manipulated since the dawn of time. In preparing this article, I discovered that men have always mapped their environment and this for over 5000 years, first Egyptians, and this is only the beginning! Cloud is no exception. Mapping keep Beamap, busy, well … 🙂 Map. It helps to see more clearly in the Cloud environment. What topics are mapping in the Cloud? There are many: Technologies, Private Clouds first, for those who build. We will find maps of converged infrastructure (HP, IBM, VCE) software solutions (Openstack, Microsoft, VMware) Reference Architectures  for Private Cloud (which components to what role) Offers an overview of what are the cloud available with their differences An overview of SaaS players to see clearly by vertical area for example. Use these maps to build your Cloud! They are key to find your way to the cloud, then to find a path for the pioneers that we...
